In my point of view your idea is great and you should share with students more about your career. Besides that, it will help them to understand more about what they are going to do and also what they want for the future. As I've said, you had a great idea, so please keep in mind that you'll guide at least one student to the right way.
Just one of a million things I'd like to try next year. Wouldn't this be a great thing to send on with students every year?
